On Tuesday 3 November 2015, I headed off to Bedford Centre, carrying my trusty Moleskine.
I was heading for Bennigan’s, a restaurant one floor above Exclusive Books.
The event was something I’ve never attended… some sort of bookish chat by publishers to people interested in such things.
For R35 entry fee, everyone gets a cup of coffee (or tea), and a generous slice of cake.
I had no idea what to expect.
What I saw was loads of books. And loads of book club members. Mostly elderly women.
And three representatives of two publishers… Jonathan Ball and Penguin Random House.
They each gave a short presentation, giving micro reviews and opinions on books in their stables which they believe will be excellent reads.
These are the sketchnotes I made in my notebook as they spoke.
At the end, the Exclusive Books staffers running the event made a surprise announcement. They said that everyone would be getting a free book.
I scored an uncorrected book proof of Reif Larsen’s novel, I AM RADAR.
