In the Sunday Times of 1 May 2016, Margaret Harris wrote a profile on Kevin Clarence. As director at Birchwood Hotel &\u00a0OR Tambo Conference Centre<\/a>, he’s a conference maven.<\/p>\n

I figured the article was evocative, and would be cool to interpret as a sketchnote.<\/p>\n

I picked the information Kevin spoke about that I thought was most pertinent.<\/p>\n

In my work as a visual facilitator, I have to listen very accurately to what’s being said in any particular room. I can’t draw EVERYTHING that gets talked about. I have to choose the things that I believe are important to the delegates.<\/p>\n

In this case, I had the luxury of a Sunday afternoon to read the article, and choose what I feel best represents Kevin. Naturally, some of the left out stuff is very important, and very interesting. Which is why visual facilitation\/graphic recording\/sketchnoting is an interpretive art.<\/p>\n

The best thing about doing it live, with the delegates watching the drawing unfold as I’m making it, is that I get feedback. If my interpretation is lacking something, delegates and presenters can correct me. Or they can ask me to add to the picture.<\/p>\n
